PUPPET MAKING

These are images from my technical sketchbook that documented the making of my graduation film's puppet.  It includes mouldmaking, armature design and construction, silicon casting and other processes.  It was great to get a chance to learn all these processes first hand.  The armature design was challenging, but rewarding because it allowed me to have very specific movement.  I was very keen for the puppets breasts to be animated...  (Inspired by the puppet makers at Mackinnon and Saunders who did a similar thing with the busty 'Corpse Bride' character Nell Van Dor)  ... Not only could I have a comical bouncing, but the addition of this movement allowed me to convincinly animate her breathing and added subtlty that I would otherwise have to work without.  Click on an image to enlarge it.
